Electric scooters: innovative or just plain dumb?
I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been seeing a LOT of electric scooters lately. If you would have asked me a year ago if I thought electric scooters were a good idea, I would have said absolutely… now though, I’m not so sure 😬
The idea behind electric scooters is a great one – you’ll help the environment and it’s a quick and tireless way of getting around a city centre, that’s for sure! But, here’s my problem: there are no safety precautions.
Some of these scooters can rack up some serious speed, yet you require no training, no safety equipment, and you don’t even need insurance! Plus, in the UK, the only electric scooters that are road or footpath legal are government-funded scooters, and these can cost £15 per hour (for those that don’t know GBP, that’s more than some taxis)! 🤯
If that wasn’t bad enough, the only people I see riding these electric scooters are 15-year-old boys that have no idea of how the roads work and most often than not the scooters they are riding are illegal, too.
I loved the idea of saving the planet with these scooters, but now I’m just constantly on edge in case a scooter-riding maniac rides in front of my car 😞 What do you think? Are these scooters helping or hindering us?
